Ingredients - serves 4-6
500g cooking apples
25g butter
50g sugar
200g plain flour
100g butter
100g muscovado sugar
75g porridge oats
75g hazelnuts
custard or cream to serve
Method
Pre heat the oven to 190°C
Peel, core and dice the apples. Melt the butter in a pan and toss the diced apple in it with the 50g of sugar. Cook over a gentle heat for a few minutes to partially cook before spooning into the bottom of an oven-proof dish.
Roast the hazelnuts for a few minutes spread across a tray, rub in a tea towel to remove loose skin and then return them the cloth and bash a few times with a rolling pin while they’re there to reduce to coarse crumbs. Rub butter it the flour to crumbs, add the muscovado sugar , oats and hazelnuts and mix. Now scatter loosely over the top of the apple.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the crumble is crispy and golden. |
